How to Clean & Care for WPC (Wood Plastic Composite) Flooring

WPC (Wood Plastic Composite) is the softer, warmer cousin of SPC. Its foamed composite core makes it noticeably more comfortable and quieter underfoot, with a bit of "give," while still being 100% waterproof. It's a great choice for living areas and bedrooms. Day-to-day care is easy — here's how to do it right and keep your warranty intact.

Everyday cleaning

• Sweep, dust-mop, or vacuum (beater bar OFF) regularly to clear grit — the main cause of surface scratches.
• Damp-mop with a well-wrung microfiber mop and warm water, or a pH-neutral vinyl/hard-floor cleaner for tougher jobs.
• WPC is waterproof, so spills won't damage the plank — but don't leave standing water pooling in seams, since it can reach the subfloor over time.

What NOT to use (protects your warranty)

• No steam mops. The heat and pressure can soften WPC's foamed core and wear layer and loosen locking joints — and steam voids most WPC warranties, waterproof or not.
• No wax or polish. The factory finish never needs it; it only builds a hazy film.
• No abrasive pads, steel wool, or scouring powder.
• No vinegar, bleach, ammonia, or soap-based detergents — pH-neutral only.

Because WPC is a bit softer…

The comfy core that makes WPC pleasant to walk on can also make it slightly more prone to dents from very heavy or sharp point-loads than a denser SPC floor. A little extra protection goes a long way:

• Put wide felt pads under every furniture leg, and use broad floor protectors under heavy pieces (pianos, fridges, bookcases) to spread the weight.
• Avoid narrow metal glides and unprotected caster wheels — use a chair mat.
• Watch high heels and dropped tools; never drag heavy furniture across it.

Mats, sun & spills

• Use vinyl-safe, non-staining entry mats (rubber/latex backings can leave a permanent stain on vinyl).
• Shade large south-facing windows to reduce long-term UV fading.
• Wipe spills with a damp cloth; chill gum/wax and lift with a plastic edge.
